The New Zealand perspective of the Six Nations
Murphy - Our man down under

I get a good coverage of the 6 nations a day late over here. The SKY subscribers get it even earlier.
The concensus of opinion in the Southern hemisphere is that Northern hemisphere teams will never reign supreme at rugby and the 6 nations is proof of this.

From what I have seen it looks a lot more exciting than the rugby I watched in 97 when I was back for a couple of weeks. It looks a lot more open than the grunt and groan I remember.

The opinion from NZ and the southern hemisphere is that the 6 nations is second rate to their own Tri Nations where the only teams to have ever won the world cup compete with each other home and away to determine the best team in the world.

The self belief that they have is in my opinion one of the major reasons for their success. That plus the fact that Rugby is the major game in NZ. It is not the most popular in OZ, rating a lot lower than Rugby League and probably on a par with Aussie rules.

Cheers
