Verwood 15 Puddletown 25
Verwood lost narrowly to Puddletown at home on Saturday 16th December
15-25. Despite fielding a
makeshift front row, Verwood led 10-8 at half-time. The lead would
have been 10-3 but for Verwood
failing to clear their lines on the stroke of half-time. Verwood had
scored through Tim Wynn following a
quick tap penalty. Wynn forced his way to the line from 15 metres out.
Garry Maidment scored the
second after a darting run from a ruck.
This is how the score remained until the final quarter. Puddletown remained
camped in the Verwood 22,
and finally scored - 10-13
Verwood regained the lead soon after. This was an opportunist try from
Garry Maidment. Darting blind
from a maul, and stepping Puddletowns right wing he ran in from 30
metres out.
With 5 miutes remaining, Verwood led 15-8. Verwood's deserved victory
was not to be. Puddletown
scored in the last 2mintes of the match and a further try followed
in injury after Verwood lost possession
after desperately trying to run the ball from their own line.
