Overton
Verwood were back in League action on Saturday 11th March at home to Overton. Unfortunately, the game was abandoned following a neck injury to Verwood centre Lee Mayne after a few minutes into the second half when Verwood trailed 12-0. Lee was taken by ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital. Fortunately, Lee's injury was less serious than first feared. He has suffered muscle damage in his neck but is otherwise ok. We are all relieved.

Fawley
Verwood were away to Fawley on Saturday 18th February losing 43-17. Verwood trailed 31-5 at half-time. Verwood Captain Darren Kendell scored close to half-time following a quickly taken tap penalty in Fawley's 22. Richard Cooke (allegedly) timed his pass sweetly to put Kendall in at the corner. Verwood contested better in the second half despite being starved of possession at the set pieces. Lawrence McCarthy popped up out of a maul 15 metres out to score his first try for the Club to bring the score back to 31-10 on the hour. At the close, scrum half Tom Prescelo went over for a consolation try after another quickly taken tap penalty. A clever dummy saw him split the defence and score under the posts. Marc Kuhne added the conversion.

Prior to the game Club Chairman Ken Banks presented Verwood resident Mrs Meredith Tunnicliff with a cheque for £100. This prize was won by Mrs Tunnicliff when she took part in the Rotary Club of Verwood's Rustic Fayre Balloon Race organised by the Rugby Club on the August Bank Holiday last year. After careful adjudication, her balloon was judged to have travelled the furthest when its card was returned from a town in Poland. In all the balloon race competitions run by the Club, this is the furthest travelled balloon to date.
